Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a speech writer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has won prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. She is the author and director-general of Feminist Frequency which is an education non-profit website which explores representations of women within popular stories of culture. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her primary goals. But, she also discusses issues of targeted harassment against women online and for other groups who are excluded. A graduate in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at university. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. It was not enough to stop her. Instead, it made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critic. Her notable contributions to the field of feminist were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in pop culture today.
